Join Chief Justice Nels Peterson of the Supreme Court of Georgia for a conversation on how Georgia courts interpret the Georgia Constitution. Drawing on his scholarship on Georgia constitutional interpretation, Chief Justice Peterson will discuss Georgia’s commitment to interpreting its Constitution on its own terms, including the role of original public meaning, constitutional text, history, and precedent. The conversation will explore how Georgia’s approach differs from simply importing federal constitutional doctrine and what independent state constitutional interpretation means for Georgia courts, lawyers, and litigants. The event will include an opportunity for student questions.
